Lewes, DE – Are you looking for a fun, free, family-oriented alternative to this weekend’s Firefly Festival? Then join nearly 30 safety and food vendors for Sussex County SAFE KIDS Day on Saturday, June 20, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Lowe’s located between Rt. 1 and Plantation Rd. in Lewes. This event, which will be held rain or shine, will bring safety and health professionals together to ensure the community has a great start for the summer season.
Sussex County SAFE KIDS Day will feature a variety of free interactive displays, and safety tips for kids on such topics as ATV safety, fire and water safety, safe sleep practices, sun protection information, medication safety, safety in and around the home, and heart/AED awareness. Vendors will also distribute information on topics such as healthy eating, health and wellness, and health insurance options and the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office will have their Ident-a-Kid kits available. New this year will be a petting zoo, face painting and a bouncy house. There will be an arson dog demonstration in the grassy area outside of the parking lot and the DSP Aviation helicopter and LifeNet helicopters will be present weather permitting.
Sussex County SAFE KIDS Day is sponsored by the Sussex County Safe Kids Committee, in partnership with Lowe’s in Lewes. The following vendors are scheduled to participate in Sussex County SAFE KIDS Day: Avon, Beebe Healthcare Trauma Department, Beebe Public Safety and Security (child safety strategies), Beebe Women’s Health, Be Smart (gun safety), Bows and Things, Cape Henlopen High School 4H, Cribs for Kids, Delaware State Police Aviation, Delaware State Fire Marshal, Delaware State Fire School, DNREC, Hot Dogs at the Beach, Hogs and Heroes, JPF Foundation (safety class information for kids), Juice Plus, La Red Health Center, La Esperanza, Lifenet, Lowe’s, Matthew Krug Foundation (AED), Melaleuca (home chemical safety), Meineke Car Services, Ms. Greater Delaware, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital Trauma Department, Nemours AI DuPont Hospital for Children, Pat’s Safety Signs, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Safe Kids Delaware, Safe Routes to School, Sea Scouts (water safety), Smart Start Program, Sussex County Paramedics, Sussex County Sheriff, United Healthcare. Bethany Beach, Lewes, Indian River, Memorial Fire Company of Slaughter Beach, Mid Sussex Rescue, and Rehoboth Fire Departments are also scheduled to participate.
